Benjamin (Bennie) Henry Algien was born on February 25, 1919 in Fruita, Colorado to parents Barney Algien and Mary Belle Jerome.
He grew up with sister Margaret (Peggy) Algien and an adopted sister Carolin Algien from his father's second marriage to Dorris Campbell.
His mother later married Jewett (Pop) Johnson.
He married Josephine Williams from Delta, Colorado, and they later had three sons, the first son was named Larry, born on January 5, 1941. Larry would later die as a toddler.
His next two sons, Gary, who as born on April 4, 1942 and his younger brother Rodney, who was born on August 5, 1946, came into the picture soon afterwards.
Bennie was enlisted as a Naval "Seabee" when he married Josephine "Josie or Jo," as she was called.
He later worked as a uranium miner throughout the western slope region of Colorado. He died on August 15, 1964 from the work that he did to support his family.
