Benjamin Gerald (Gary) Algien was born on April 4, 1942 in Delta, Colorado to parents Benjamin (Bennie) Henry Algien and Josephine Williams.

He grew up with brother Rodney Joe Algien, but lost another brother Larry Algien when he was a toddler.

Early in his childhood he and his family lived in many places such as Rifle, Colorado, Naturita, Colorado and Cisco, Utah, then after he graduated high school, his family moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado. 

After living in Grand Junction, Colorado and Moab, Utah, the family moved to the Denver area where Gary opened a tire repair business.

Gary moved to Otis, Colorado and then back to Rifle, Colorado.

When his oldest daughter graduated from high school, she moved to Rifle to be with her father, and it was there that she never really left his side, again. They were both living in Otis, 30 years later.

They have lived in the Denver area, Idaho Springs and Yuma County, Colorado area throughout that time, along with being close to his other daughter, Shannon.

Gary died on June 5, 2012, in Greeley, Colorado.
