Named from the Chippewa word "Ouisconsin"
meaning "grassy place," and nicknamed The Badger State.
Wisconsin is bordered by Michigan to the north and east; Minnesota and
Iowa to the west; and Illinois to the south.
Wisconsin's highest peak is Timms Hill at 1,951 feet, the 39th highest in the United States. The lowest point is along the shore of Lake Michigan, which is 581 feet above sea level.
