Named for Virgin Queen Elizabeth I, and nicknamed The Mountain State. West Virginia is bordered by Ohio and Kentucky to the west; Pennsylvania to the north; Virginia to the east and to the south.
West Virginia's highest peak is Spruce
Knob, at 4,863 feet, the 24th highest in the United States.
The lowest point is off the Potomac River, 240 feet below sea level.
