Named from the Caddo, meaning "friends," and nicknamed The Lone Star State. Texas is bordered by Oklahoma to the north; New Mexico to the west; Arkansas and Louisiana to the east; Mexico and The Gulf of Mexico to the south. 

Texas's highest peak is Guadalupe Peak at 8,749 feet, the 14th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at the Gulf coast, which is at sea level.
