Oregon's name is derived from a 1715 French map for
part of the Wisconsin River known back then as "Ouaricon-sint."
Oregon's nickname is The Beaver State, and is located off
of the Pacific Ocean to the west; California and Nevada to the south;
Idaho to the
east and Washington to the north.
Oregon's highest peak is Mount Hood at 11,239 feet, the 13th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at the Pacific Ocean at sea level.
