Named after the Duke of York, and nicknamed The Empire State. New York is bordered by Canada to the north and west; Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the south. 

New York's highest peak is Mount Marcy at 5,344 feet, the 21st highest in the United States. The lowest point is the Atlantic Ocean at sea level.
