Montana's name is derived from
a Spanish word meaning mountains. Montana's nickname is The Treasure State, and is located next to
Idaho to the west; Wyoming to the south; North and South Dakota to the east and
Alberta, Canada to the north.
Montana's highest peak is Granite Peak at 12,799 feet, the 10th highest in the United States. The lowest point is Kootenai River at 1,800 feet above sea level.
