Named after Queen Henrietta Maria,
consort of King Charles I of England, and nicknamed The Old Line State.
Maryland is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north; New Jersey,
Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to the east; Virginia to
the west and to the south.
Maryland's highest peak is Backbone Mountain, at 3,360 feet, the 32nd highest in the United States. The lowest point is Bloody Point Hole at 174 feet below sea level.
