Named from the Sioux meaning "southwind
people," and nicknamed The Sunflower State. Kansas is bordered by
Colorado to the west; Missouri to the east; Nebraska to
the north and Oklahoma to the south.
Kansas's highest peak is Mount Sunflower at 4,039 feet, the 28th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at the Verdigris River which is 680 feet above sea level.
