Named from the Sioux for Ioway, a tribe that inhabited the area, and nicknamed The Hawkeye State. Iowa is bordered by Minnesota to the north; South Dakota and Nebraska to the west; Wisconsin and Illinois to the east and Missouri to the south. 

Iowa's highest peak is High Point at 13,161 feet, the 42nd highest in the United States. The lowest point is at the Junction of the Mississippi and the Des Moines rivers at 480 feet above sea level.
