Idaho's name is derived from an
Indian word, meaning gem of the mountains. Idaho's nickname is the Gem
State, and is located next to Washington and Oregon to the west; Nevada
and Utah to the south; Montana and Wyoming to the
east and British Columbia, Canada to the north.
Idaho's highest peak is Borah Peak at 12,662 feet, the 11th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at Snake River at 710 feet above sea level.
