Named from the Mohican and Algonquin
Indian word "Quinnechtukgut," for a "place beside a long river," and nicknamed The
Constitution State. Connecticut is bordered by Massachusetts to the west
and south; Rhode Island to the east; and New York to the north.
Connecticut's highest peak is Mount Frissell at 2,380 feet, the 36th highest in the United States. The lowest point is Long Island Sound at sea level.
