Named from the French/Sioux for "acansa," meaning "downstream place,"  and nicknamed The Natural State. Arkansas is bordered by Tennessee and Mississippi to the east; Louisiana to the south; Oklahoma and Texas to the west and Missouri to the north. 

Arkansas's highest peak is Magazine Mountain at 2,753 feet, the 34th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at Ouachita River, which is 55 feet above sea level.
