Named for an Indian word "arizonac," a place for a little spring. Nicknamed Grand Canyon State. Arizona is located next to California to the west; Utah to the north; New Mexico to the east and Mexico to the south. Colorado also borders Arizona by just a tip in the northeastern corner of the state.

Arizona's highest peak is Humphrey's Peak at 12,633 feet, the 12th highest in the United States. The lowest point is at the Colorado River at 70 feet above sea level.
